    Luigi Mangione Will Not Face Death Penalty If Convicted, Judge Says

    Luigi Mangione will not face the death penalty by lethal injection if he is convicted of the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. In a 39-page ruling, the federal judge admitted his decision "may strike the average person, and indeed many lawyers, as tortured and strange." Mangione denies the murder charge. Friday's hearing took place a day after news broke of what authorities say is a bizarre attempt to "free Luigi." Mangione's attorney says he was unaware of the alleged plot to free him.
