    Old Bomb Shelters Are Repurposed As Cooling Centers

    Several dozen World War 2-era bomb shelters have been converted into cooling centers in Chongqing, China. The shelters' original purpose was to provide some protection to the people of Chongqing during the later 1930s and early 1940s, when the industrial region was devastated by Japanese bombing raids. Now, Chongqing faces a different threat: devastating heat, with summer temperatures in the southwestern Chinese city reaching over a hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
