Beware The Dracula Orchid!
October 29, 2026
No, the Dracula orchid isn't likely to suck your blood. But it is likely to go extinct, if people don't work to protect the species. "Dracula" means "little dragon" in Latin, and the flowers are so named because they resemble little dragons. Native to South and Central America, they're threatened by climate change and other human-caused issues. To help preserve Dracula orchids, the Chester Zoo in England is raising them, by recreating their habitat, which is described as "cool and misty."
